The Leisure Break Scheme
The Leisure Break (formerly Leisure Breakaways) scheme has been running for more than ten years. The scheme was originally conceived as a respite service for parents and carers. The scheme organises weekend and day trips away for small groups of adults, who live at home with their parents/carers, accompanied by at least two support workers. They enjoy a wide variety of trips.
They have visited places as varied as:
• Portsmouth dock yard
• Cadbury World
• Mama-Mia stage show
• Night clubbing in Brighton
• Christmas Market and Spa in Bath
• Richmond Venturer boat trip
• Hairspray – the musical
• Greyhound Racing in Poole
The weekend trips run from Saturday morning to Sunday evening, allowing carers two full days and one night of respite whilst giving the participants new and exciting experiences, and often a sense of independence.
